Community 36x48 Original Acrylic on Canvas (1-1 3/16th deep).

The energy of this piece is about connection, true blue stuck like glue friends, bosom buddies, the way layers of paint are so different from each other but each layer like each person or friend in your community are all connected and necessary to create a beautiful whole.

This piece Community, came to me in a unique way. It’s the only piece where an image flashed at me before the word.

I was painting another piece but these yellow starbursts flashed in my mind. I knew that the starbursts were NOT meant for the piece that I was working on.

I couldn’t stop thinking about the starbursts and what they meant to me. The first word that came to me was Connected.

Connected was the first word I wrote on the canvas then while meditating on the canvas another word came to me that was community and another image flashed before my eyes of Fireworks which sparked an old memory

It was a memory when much younger 6ish. It was the 4th of July. Where I grew up in Toledo OH the fireworks were always done over the Maumee River and there was this spot where the symphony would set up and people stake out their spot early! Some people are there all day! They are spread out on blankets and lawn chairs all around the orchestra and we’d have a picnic dinner or snacks and there were thousands of people downtown, people on boats in the water.

Then at 9ish when it got dark the symphony would start playing the most patriotic songs you can think of and warm up the crowd and then the fireworks would start. I remember lying on the blanket looking up at the fireworks that looked like they were raining down on us the boom of the fireworks reverberating in chest while we were surrounded by thousands of others also looking up and experiencing pure AWE.

This experience felt like a truly connected community. the kind of connection you feel sometimes in yoga when you realize that you are all one breathing body moving in unison.

While painting, I was trying to capture that connected community feeling & also capture the starburst and the fireworks. On the back of the canva I wrote “Community Connected”.

The Intentions Collection is my first large-scale set of acrylic paintings.  The Intentions Collection was a spark of an idea I had at the end of December 2023 on the cusp of 2024. As a Life Coach, I’m always encouraging clients to pick a word for the year, identify core values, and pick words that represent those values.

For each piece, I pick a word, then I write the word on the canvas and meditate on the word writing down on the canvas what comes up for me when I think about that word. Then I start painting hoping to convey the energy of that word.
