A note on supplies: These are my favorites.  You might have the desire to try to find cheaper paper than the arches listed below, don’t do that.  In Watercolor, you can buy cheap paint and cheap paintbrushes but paper quality matters.  You can take a very talented watercolor artist and have them paint on cheap paper and it will look like it was painted by a toddler, don’t skimp on the paper.

Carbon paper for tracing
I use a Butcher Tray for my paint palette but a white plate would also work just fine.
